CompEx 11 (Mechanical)

Description/Objectives

Candidates will learn about the safety considerations that should be applied to work areas that contain potentially explosive or flammable atmospheres and the factors that are used to classify their location.

The course includes instruction on how to read hazardous area certification, labeling, and documentation, and also informs candidates about the main protection concepts, categories and levels that are applied to certified Ex electrical and mechanical equipment. Ex11 meets the competency requirements of the IEC60079 series of standards and the relevant national standards and directives.

Upon completion of the CompEx Ex11 course the student will be able to:                                                                                                                 

  • Demonstrate installation and inspection skills for non-electrical equipment in hazardous areas.                                                 
  • Understand the basics of Ex protection methods and where each may be used.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Ex markings.      
  • Understand which activities are and are not allowed with regard to maintenance and repairs. 
Target Audience
This qualification is suitable for practicing mechanical operatives who are involved in installing, inspecting, and maintaining non-electrical (mechanical) equipment in locations where gases, vapours, and/or dust can potentially create a hazardous area.
Outcome
Candidates who are successful in both the theory and practical assessments will receive a CompEx Certificate in Core Competence valid for 5 years.

OPTION-1: In-person plus Online exam OPTION 2: Two days of interactive live sessions on zoom. 1-day hands-on training, practical assessment, and online exam

Prerequisite
Practicing competent mechanical operatives. Practicing competent multi-skilled operatives. Mechanical engineers with previous practical experience. Electro-mechanical engineers with previous practical experience. A reasonable standard of English is expected Prior CompEx certification supported by employer-sponsored letter
