Description/Objectives
This unit of competency covers the basic principles of protection in explosive atmospheres of plants and machinery. Competence in this unit shall be assessed in combination with, or after gaining other competence required by a given industry or enterprise for plant or machinery operation or installations, maintenance, or service functions
Upon completion of the CompEx âFâ course the student will be able to:

- Identify the correct national regulations, directives, and IEC standards which relate to hazardous areas.
- Demonstrate the ability to correctly terminate low voltage cable conductors into an enclosure using the appropriate tools.
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the main protection concepts, categories and protection levels that apply to equipment certified for use in hazardous areas.
- Demonstrate the ability to correctly install certified Ex glands to armored and non-armored low voltage cables using appropriate tools.
Formation
The 2 days course include: Theory plus practical elements (Assessment is undertaken using a practical assessment and an online examination)
This course incorporates a practical component on cable glanding and terminations. Candidate must demonstrate their ability to gland & terminate various cables in given scenarios.
They will be assessed on the competency of cable selections, glanding, crimping and termination.
